What is Traditional Forest Bathing?

Forest bathing, known as shinrin-yoku, emerged in the 1980s in Japan as a way for people in stressful urban environments to reconnect with nature. The idea is to move at a gentle pace and engage the senses while in the forest, taking in the sights, sounds, and scents of nature. By doing so, you can calm the nervous system and restore a sense of balance.

With lush forests located across Ireland, the practice has also taken root on the Emerald Isle. But sometimes, you want to be outside while also getting the heart pumping — or tiring out the kids! That’s why our treetop courses provide the perfect alternative…

Zipit’s Take on Forest Bathing

Zipit offers a fresh take on what it means to immerse yourself in nature. Instead of strolling beneath the trees, you’ll be right up in the canopy, climbing platforms, crossing suspended bridges, navigating obstacles, and flying along zip lines!

The physical challenge makes you intensely present. When you’re balancing between two trees or building up the courage to take the next leap, you are awake to everything: the creak of wooden platforms, the smell of pine, the feel of the breeze as you prepare to swing through the canopy. It’s an activity that demands both focus and appreciation for the forest around you.

What makes Zipit unique is that every course is built around the existing trees. There are no concrete structures or artificial poles — the entire setup is designed to let the trees continue growing naturally. We carry out annual health checks on each tree and adjust or replace activities whenever needed to ensure the forest stays healthy.
