Getting to Tibradden Wood by Car

Tibradden Wood is conveniently located approximately 30 minutes from Dublin city centre by car. Here’s how to get there:

  • From Dublin City Centre: Take the R114 south towards Rathfarnham. Continue on the R114 until you reach the R113 (Edmondstown Road). Follow the R113 to Tibradden Road (R116) and then follow the signs to Tibradden Wood.
  • From the M50 Motorway: Take Exit 12 (Firhouse) and follow Scholarstown Road (R113) towards Ballyboden. Continue on to the R116 (Tibradden Road) and follow the signs to Tibradden Wood.

While Tibradden Wood is best accessed by car, public transport options are available:

  • Bus and Taxi: Dublin Bus routes 16 and 161 operate from the city centre to nearby areas. From the final stop, a short taxi ride or walk will be required to reach Tibradden Wood.

Is There Free Parking at Tibradden Wood?

Yes, Tibradden Wood offers free parking for visitors. The car park is located near the main entrance and is open throughout the year. However, opening hours vary with the seasons:

  • Car Park Opens: 7 am (April to September) and 8 am (October to March)
  • Car Park Closes: 9 pm (April to September) and 5 pm (October to March)

  • Tibradden Mountain Trail: A linear out-and-back walk (2.4 km each way) that takes you to the summit of Tibradden Mountain, offering breathtaking views across Dublin Bay to Howth.
  • Bohernabreena Reservoir Loop: An 8.7-km circular trail near Ballinascorney considered to be moderately challenging. It takes around two hours to complete.

When excavated in 1849, the site was found to have a central cist (small stone-lined grave) with a pottery food vessel from the Bronze Age and cremated human remains within a circular chamber.
