Outdoor corporate adventures at Lough Key Forest Park, Co. Roscommon
Lough Key Forest Park, in Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands. The only outdoor team building venue of its kind west of the Shannon.
For companies in Galway, Sligo, Mayo, Athlone, or anywhere across Connacht and the Midlands, this is the option that doesn’t require a three-hour drive to Dublin. Your team gets three hours of high ropes, ziplines, and forest challenges in one of Ireland’s most beautiful forest parks.
Groups of 10 to 100+ welcome.
ZipIt Lough Key sits within the 350-hectare forest park, alongside walking trails, a visitor centre, and the lake itself. Many corporate groups make a full day of it. Some stay overnight in Boyle or Carrick-on-Shannon and turn the team activity into a proper retreat.
Six circuits from ground level to twenty metres up in the canopy. Ziplines, rope bridges, cargo nets, and balance challenges. Your team works through them together, at their own pace, in a setting that makes the day feel significant.
Every corporate booking covers three hours on site. Here’s the breakdown.
Safety briefing and equipment (30 minutes)
Everyone gets fitted with a full harness and helmet. Our instructors (all ERCA-certified) explain how the continuous belay system works: you clip in at the start and stay clipped in until you’re back on the ground. No experience necessary. The briefing covers circuit rules, platform transitions, and what to do if someone needs assistance.
Circuit time (2.5 hours)
Five circuits, colour-coded from green (easiest) to red (hardest). Green stays about one metre off the ground. Red takes you 15 metres into the canopy with ziplines spanning entire clearings. Everyone starts in green or blue, gets comfortable, then works their way up as confidence builds.
Nobody has to do anything they’re not comfortable with. Some people spend three hours on the lower circuits. Others push straight for red. Both approaches work. The point is doing something physical together, not proving who’s bravest.
All equipment provided
Wear comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, and closed-toe shoes with good grip. Trainers are ideal. Harnesses are provided, and gloves are available to purchase on the day if you’d like them.
Lough Key works differently from our Dublin or Cork locations. It’s not a quick half-day activity. The setting and location lend themselves to something more substantial.
Day trip option
For companies within 90 minutes (Galway, Sligo, Athlone, Longford), a day trip works well. Drive out in the morning, ZipIt at 11am, lunch at the forest park café or in Boyle, back by late afternoon.
Overnight retreat
For companies coming from further afield (Dublin, Cork, Limerick), the overnight angle transforms the experience. Travel on day one, dinner and overnight in Boyle or Carrick-on-Shannon, ZipIt on day two, explore the forest park, head home.
Accommodation options nearby include The Lough Key House, various B&Bs in Boyle, and Carrick-on-Shannon (15 minutes) with more hotels and restaurants. Kilronan Castle is 30 minutes away for groups wanting something fancier.
The retreat format works well for management teams, annual planning sessions, or any group where the day needs to feel like an event rather than an item on the calendar.

Lough Key Forest Park offers more than Zipit. If you’re making a full day or overnight retreat, here’s what else is available:
Walking trails: Multiple marked routes through the 350-hectare forest, from 30-minute loops to half-day hikes.
Boda Borg: Puzzle-based team challenge rooms within the park. Good for groups wanting a second activity.
Lough Key Experience: Viewing tower with panoramic views over the lake and forest. A quick add-on after ZipIt.
P Macs Kayaks: A variety of kayaking tours for all ages & abilities.
The wider area: Boyle Abbey (10 minutes), Arigna Mining Experience (25 minutes), Carrick-on-Shannon (15 minutes) for evening food and drinks.
For groups building a full retreat, we can help you plan an itinerary that combines Zipit with other activities.
Companies based in Galway, Sligo, and the northwest who want team building without the Dublin trip. Dublin and Cork companies looking for a retreat setting rather than a quick activity. Management teams wanting a day that feels significant. Groups combining multiple activities into a full programme.
The common thread: companies who understand that location matters for team building, and that the west of Ireland offers something different from the usual options closer to the major cities.
