Why Autumn Is the Best Time for a Forest Adventure in Ireland

While we outdoor enthusiasts love to sing summer’s praises, here’s a little secret: autumn is actually the best time to get outside. At Zipit, we’re all about adventure, adrenaline, and a whole lot of fun — and autumn delivers on every front!

With temperate weather and fewer crowds, the months from September to November provide the perfect balance between the highs of summer and the calm of winter. Here’s more on why it’s the ultimate season to zip, swing, and climb your way through our forest adventure parks in Ireland!

Ireland Shows Off in Autumn

Ireland may be known as the “Emerald Isle” for its striking greenery, but autumn sees the forests explode with colour. Fiery reds, golden yellows, and burnt oranges decorate the landscape, making it a truly aesthetic time of year. What better way to experience it than up in the treetops?

At our Zipit courses in Dublin, Roscommon, and Cork, you get a front-row seat to this natural spectacle. As you navigate our thrilling circuits, you’ll be awed by the beauty — and the incredible photo opportunities! Get someone to take pictures of you as you climb so you can show off on Insta later!

Irish Weather in Autumn: Perfect for Outdoor Adventures!

It’s not too hot, and not too cold. Autumn is practically perfect. You’re not sweating through your t-shirt or freezing your fingers off. It’s just the right kind of cool to keep you comfortable as you Tarzan your way through the forest. During autumn, temperatures average around 15 degrees Celsius, rain blows over quickly, and you can still experience ample daylight hours before the darkness of winter descends.

No Queues, No Crowds, No Problem

Summer’s great, but let’s be honest — everyone and their granny is out and about. Come autumn, things quieten down. That means fewer crowds, more space, and less waiting around. You’ll have the treetops pretty much to yourself, and our instructors can give you more one-on-one tips and guidance if you wish.

This also makes it a great time for group activities, whether you’re arranging team building, a birthday party, or a stag and hen do. Take advantage of the shoulder season and enjoy the freedom of the canopies!

Spot Ireland’s Wildlife in the Autumn

While the crowds disappear, Ireland’s wildlife makes a comeback. As animals prepare for winter, the forest is far more active with squirrels, birds, and maybe even a deer or two if you’re lucky. Since our courses are located in stunning Coiltte Forest, you’ll be in the perfect place to do some wildlife spotting before, during, or after your treetop adventure!

Continue the Summer Fun in Autumn

Sure, the summer holidays might be over, and you’re back to your nine-to-five. That doesn’t mean the adventure has to stop. In fact, it’s all the reason to continue! What better way is there to blow off some steam and reconnect as a family than doing something epic? We’ve previously written about why every family needs an outdoor escape, as well as how outdoor adventures improve mental health

Daily stressors and a looming winter mean it’s more important than ever to prioritise family time and your wellbeing in autumn. Our courses take just three hours to complete, meaning you can easily fit it into your weekend!

Tips for Irish Forest Adventures in Autumn

Autumn is an amazing time to get outdoors, but a little prep goes a long way. Here’s how to make sure your Zipit adventure is seamless:

  • Dress in layers: The weather can change quickly, so wear light layers you can peel off or put on. A base layer, fleece, and waterproof jacket usually do the trick. Quick-drying active wear is also preferable to a pair of jeans!
  • Wear the right shoes: Stick with closed-toe, sturdy shoes like runners or light hiking boots. No sandals or slip-ons. You’ll be climbing ladders, crossing bridges, and zipping along cables, so your feet need protection.
  • Check the forecast, but don’t panic: A little drizzle never hurt anyone. Zipit runs in all conditions (except for extreme weather), so check the forecast beforehand and come prepared.
  • Book ahead: Autumn is quieter than summer, but weekends can still get busy. Booking your tickets in advance online guarantees your spot and means you avoid any disappointment on the day.
  • Arrive early and enjoy: Get to Zipit a little early to enjoy the autumn scenery, snap some photos, and settle in before your safety briefing. Or, pack a picnic to enjoy in the forest afterwards!
